Clay Play and Arts is excited to announce a member-only workshop on sgraffito carving. This workshop will be taught by our instructor Terri Mulein, who enjoys doing sgraffito carving on many of her pieces. During this workshop, you will be given a tile to practice carving skills. Plan to bring a bowl, vase, or plate to decorate as well. Your piece needs to be trimmed and leather hard. A drier leather hard surface is best for carving. You will paint your pottery with underglaze and then transfer a pattern with parchment paper and pencil to the piece before carving. There will be designs to choose from but please feel free to bring a design that you wish to transfer for carving.
