A Rare Two-Day Hands-On Experience with Korean Onggi Masters
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Kim Yong Ho
Kim Yong-ho is a 7th-generation Onggi master, continuing a family tradition passed down through generations.
His father, Kim Il-man, was a 6th-generation Onggi master and National Intangible Cultural Heritage holder. In 2025, Kim Yong-ho was also designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage holder in Onggi, recognizing his dedication to preserving and transmitting this important Korean ceramic tradition.
Kim Hee Gun
Kim Hee Gun is an 8th-generation successor of the Onggi tradition, continuing his family’s ceramic legacy while introducing Onggi to new audiences through workshops, cultural programs, and contemporary media.
Together, the artists offer participants an extraordinary opportunity to experience the techniques, knowledge, and cultural traditions of Korean Onggi firsthand.

IMPORTANT: ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP
Onggi making is a traditional craft that takes years of dedicated practice to develop and master.
This two-day workshop is designed as an introduction to traditional Korean Onggi making — not a mastery course.
The purpose of this experience is to introduce participants to the foundations of the craft, traditional techniques, and cultural knowledge directly from experienced Onggi artists, while providing a foundation for those who wish to continue practicing afterward.
Participants will work toward building a traditional Onggi vessel approximately 45 cm / 18 inches tall while learning the fundamental techniques demonstrated by the artists.
Because Onggi requires considerable skill, strength, coordination, and practice, completion of a specific size or finished vessel cannot be guaranteed. Results will naturally vary depending on each participant’s experience, working pace, and individual progress.
We encourage participants to approach the workshop with a focus on learning and experiencing the process rather than solely on producing a finished object.
Our hope is that these two days provide a meaningful introduction and inspire participants to continue practicing and exploring the remarkable tradition of Korean Onggi long after the workshop ends.
Attendance on both days is strongly encouraged, as the techniques and instruction build upon one another throughout the workshop.

Registration is for the complete two-day workshop and cannot be divided into individual days.
