Raku Firing Horsehair Workshop (10/18/2025) Sat 10:00AM
Horsehair Raku Firing Workshop
Experience the magic of horse hair raku in this hands-on, community-focused workshop! Horse hair raku is a fascinating firing technique where strands of horse hair, feathers, and other natural materials are applied to hot, bare clay surfaces straight from the kiln. The intense heat burns these materials into the clay, creating beautiful, smoky patterns and striking black lines — each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.
You’ll bring your own bisque-fired pieces (up to 6 pieces, each around 6”x6”x6”). We recommend using raku clay to help prevent thermal shock and burnishing your pieces beforehand for even more dramatic results. You’re also welcome to bring your favorite feathers and other organic materials to experiment with different effects.
